Text files
Principally, text files from every known text processing programme can be imported into our graphic packages. Text files from for example Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, etc. do not cause (m)any issues during conversion. The files can always be stored as an RTF file (Rich Text Format) or text file (doc or txt). It is best to supply the texts without page layout, without breaks or excessive codes. Tabs can be inputted beforehand, but only one per table. We recommend that you always supply a print as a backup for verification. If the texts were laid out in a word processor then we cannot be held responsible for any text changes. Please always request a printer’s proof.
Page layout
Normally, your files can be processed without problems when using any of the following software packages (*):
- Adobe Indesign CS2 (Macintosh)
- QuarkXpress 6.1 (Macintosh / PC)
- Adobe Illustrator CS2 (Macintosh / PC); never store in 7.0 o 9.0 format!
- PDF (see Belgian standard on www.medibelplus.be)
- Coreldraw 9.0 (PC) – Please convert fonts to contours or curves first.
Pages laid out in other software packages will be converted if possible by us to the aforementioned packages. If we do not own the software, then you can always convert your files to EPS, PS or PDF format.
(*) supposing that fonts and text, illustration and image files implemented in the manner required by us are supplied.
Fonts
All fonts used in a document need to be supplied with the document. This applies to both Macintosh and PC. Some tips: use original, recent fonts. Do not create synthetic fonts by clicking "B" (=bold) or "i" (=italic). If no bold is available in your font family, then do not create it or use it. Do not use more than ten different fonts in one document. City fonts such as Geneva, New York, Chicago may not be used at all.
Images
Scanned images can be supplied if they can be saved as:
- a PSD file
- Tiff file
- EPS file
- JPEG file
- AI file
And have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. The images also need to be saved in CMYK mode (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black). Please ensure that the scanned images are always supplied in real size or larger.
Line work
To be saved as a Tiff, AI or EPS file. If fonts have been used in line work or in drawing packages such as Macromedia Freehand or Adobe Illustrator, then please vectorize these fonts (create outlines) so that these do not cause any problems when lighting from layout programmes. Never save line work as Illustrator 7.0 or 9.0 formats (8.0, 10.0 or ai is preferable).
Information carriers
We can read the following information carriers:
- 3.5 inch disc
- ZIP 100 or 250 MB (Macintosh / PC)
- CD-Rom
- USB sticks
- DVD
- Card reader digital cameras
